Apples and Autumn

Last week and this week are two of my favorite themes for preschool: apples and autumn!  There are so many fun activities that we are able to do including apple tasting, finger painting, and autumn wreaths.  In the PreK class many of the students liked the green apples the best which happens to be Ms. Jenny's favorite too.

This week we've been talking about autumn and some of the things that happen during this season such as changing leaf colors, leaves falling off trees, we can go to pumpkin patches, and we can also go trick-or-treating on Halloween.  We've played with leaves in the motor room and created some beautiful autumn wreaths in the art room.  In the 2s class we also had a chance to feel a real gourd from TJ's grandparents' farm!  It sure was bumpy.

Below are some pictures from throughout the week-enjoy!

Next week's theme is "Farm" and the beginning of October!

Tony Feller

Last night, Crystal's husband, Tony, passed away.  We take comfort in the fact that he is no longer suffering and has been reunited with family and friends that have gone before him.  Due to the funeral services, Talking Time Learning Center will be closed this Friday, September 18th.  Visitation will be Thursday, September 17th from 4-8pm and the funeral will be Friday at 1:30.  Both events will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Geist.  Crystal has requested that we do not send flowers.  There is information in your child's yellow folder about who to contact if you would like to make a donation in lieu of flowers.  We're hoping to have something permanently here at the school to remember Tony such as a tree.

Please keep Crystal, Ashely and Will in your prayers.

New Playground, On To Apples

This past week we wrapped up our home and families unit.  It has been fun watching the childrens' personalities begin to shine as they become more comfortable in the classroom.  Most of the classes read the story The Three Little Pigs, which was incorporated into several of our other activities.  In art we made house of straw, sticks (pretzels), and bricks (stamps) just like in the story!  In the PreK class we talked about who is in our families and made a family tree. We also have a new playground at Talking Time Learning Center which the students were able to explore this week.  We are very thankful for the outdoor space to run and play!

Next week we will be starting our apple unit and also welcome our grandparents to school on Tuesday or Wednesday!

Great start to the second week of school!

Well, whether your child is in the PreK or 2s class we are now in the second week of school and already it's going smoother than last week!  The students are starting to adjust to our routines.  I've taken a few pictures, which you will find below and there will be more soon!

Some info about this week:
*Our theme: All About Me
-We'll be talking about features of ourselves such as eyes, ears, nose, mouth etc. as well as gender and favorite activities.  It's a great week to learn about each other.
-In the PreK class we're going to be working on a class "All About Me" book.  It won't be assembled until probably late next week after I finish laminating and binding the book.  In my past classrooms, the children always loved to look at our "homemade" books and read about each other.  We'll also be making a family book next week (please send in family pictures if you haven't already :) )
-We're going to be having a Grandparents/VIP day in September.  Sign up sheets to bring food are outside each classroom.  More details to come.

Enjoy the pictures!  Thanks for visiting our blog!
